The peoples of Opaline

Six lineages.
Countless lives.

Lineage shapes a character’s nature, history, gifts, and burdens. It does not decide their morality, loyalty, profession, or place in the stories they build with others.

Choosing a lineage

Begin with the person.
Then consider the power.

The strongest Opaline characters could still hold a conversation, pursue a goal, form a relationship, or create trouble without ever using an ability. Lineage should complicate an already interesting life rather than become the whole of it.

Read for the responsibilities and weaknesses as carefully as the strengths. Choose the lineage whose nature creates the most useful questions for the character you want to play.

Each guide begins with identity and roleplay before moving into abilities and systems.

Questions worth asking

What will this lineage demand of your character?

What part of ordinary life are they trying to protect, escape, or rebuild?

Which responsibility of their lineage do they accept—and which do they resist?

Who knows what they are, and what would happen if the wrong person learned?

What weakness creates meaningful risk rather than an inconvenience to ignore?

Why do they need a community instead of living safely alone?

What choice could place their personal desires against the Veil?

A calling, not a bloodline

Oathborn does not replace lineage.

Characters from any lineage may become Oathborn. The title describes an oath, responsibility, and factional role: seeking truth, protecting the innocent, confronting supernatural threats, and preserving the Veil. Every Oathborn remains fully part of their original lineage.
