Narrative roleplay standards
Opaline's rules protect agency, consent, consequence, and community so conflict can remain dramatic without becoming destructive.
Read the rules ↓The plain-language standard
Communicate honestly, keep IC and OOC separate, respect boundaries, prepare for what your character attempts, and allow actions to produce fair consequences. The goal is not to win a scene. The goal is to build one worth remembering together.
Before any mechanic
Never dictate another character's thoughts, actions, injuries, or permanent consequences.
Communicate before consequences become lasting, intimate, or character-defining.
Character conflict is story. Player harassment, retaliation, and personal attacks are not.
Meaningful choices create risk, response, and change. Consent does not erase reasonable outcomes.
Supernatural knowledge creates responsibility, but knowledge alone is not automatically a breach.
The strongest scenes give other players something to respond to and make Opaline feel inhabited.
Good faith and unaddressed situations
Opaline's rules provide a framework for collaborative storytelling. They cannot anticipate every character circumstance, hypothetical scenario, or unusual interaction. Players are expected to interpret rules reasonably, respect their intended purpose, and avoid exploiting omissions or technicalities for personal advantage. When a situation is not specifically addressed, work together toward a fair outcome consistent with established lore and community standards. If an agreement cannot be reached, Staff makes the final determination. The absence of a written restriction does not constitute permission, and the absence of a specific procedure does not prevent Staff from resolving the situation.

When approval is required
Character death, permanent injury or transformation, forced captivity, sanctioned combat, property seizure, and specialized faction equipment may require player consent, staff approval, or both. The complete guide identifies the exact boundary.
