Learn the town
Begin with Opaline itself: a close-knit harbor town on Alaska’s southern coast, occupying the landscape where Homer would stand in our world. Daily life is public. The supernatural remains behind the Veil.

What is Opaline?
Opaline is a character-driven supernatural roleplay community in Second Life. It is built around the rhythms of a working coastal town: neighbors, businesses, public institutions, families, local troubles, and stories that grow through continued play.
Beneath that familiar life are the Born—six lineages connected by old history, uneasy cooperation, and the Veil that protects their existence from the wider world.
The newcomer path
There is no entrance examination. Take the process in order and arrive ready to collaborate.
Begin with Opaline itself: a close-knit harbor town on Alaska’s southern coast, occupying the landscape where Homer would stand in our world. Daily life is public. The supernatural remains behind the Veil.
Explore the world →Start with a life rather than a power. Give your character work, relationships, obligations, ambitions, flaws, and a reason to remain in Opaline. Lineage should deepen that person, not replace them.
Meet the lineages →Opaline is collaborative, story-first roleplay. Respect consent, keep player knowledge separate from character knowledge, preserve the Veil, and leave room for other characters to shape every scene.
Review the essentials →Lyra is Opaline’s official character-creation system. Create an account, begin a new character, or sign in to continue one already in progress. The public website itself never requires an account.
Open Lyra ↗Once you are ready, arrive at Opaline’s Second Life landing zone. There you can access resident information, orient yourself to the sim, and begin meeting the community in the place where the story happens.

The strongest characters feel at home in both sides of the setting.
Opaline should feel like a real town with jobs, homes, public services, friendships, rivalries, and consequences. The hidden world adds pressure and mystery; it does not erase ordinary life.
Not every character begins with complete knowledge of the Born. Secrets should be learned through scenes, relationships, investigation, and earned trust rather than assumed out of character.
Second Life is Opaline’s primary roleplay environment. Discord supports announcements, scheduling, coordination, and community conversation, but the sim is where shared stories are meant to unfold.
No lineage is automatically heroic, corrupt, superior, or monstrous. A character’s conduct, loyalties, and decisions matter more than the nature they were born into—or later became.
