Experience & Growth

Experience rewards roleplay that helps Opaline feel alive.

Official reference

Know why.
Then know how.

How roleplay earns XP, which contributions receive greater weight, how scenes are submitted, and when abilities and ranks become available.

The complete reference is the authority. Examples explain intent; they do not create loopholes around consent, staff direction, or collaborative play.

What the system rewards

Help Opaline feel alive.

All roleplay is welcome. XP gives greater weight to scenes that invite community interaction, develop ongoing stories, advance careers, factions, and lineages, or create opportunities for other residents.

The system does not judge subject matter, political viewpoint, romance, alignment, heroism, villainy, success, or failure. It evaluates the roleplay's contribution.

Progression follows memorable storytelling—not grinding.

Five scoring categories

Twenty-five points.
Doubled for the base award.

Each category normally receives up to five points. A deserving submission may receive zero in a category.

1–5

Location

Public sim, career locations, faction headquarters, and lineage sanctuaries receive the strongest weight; closed private scenes receive less.

1–5

Community Interaction

Larger scenes reward the time and coordination required to involve more active participants.

1–5

Roleplay Depth

Measures meaningful action, dialogue, and development—not vocabulary, grammar, or literary ornament.

1–5

Story Contribution

Rewards career, lineage, faction, arc, and community roleplay that moves Opaline's living world forward.

1–5

Community Value

Considers whether the scene creates opportunities, invites participation, or benefits the wider town.

Frequently asked questions

Experience in practice

How many scenes may I submit?+

One scene per player per calendar day. Staff may approve additional submissions during official arcs or community events.

How is base XP calculated?+

Five categories are scored from 1 to 5 for a maximum total score of 25. The total score is multiplied by two, producing up to 50 standard XP.

Can a category receive zero?+

Yes. The official philosophy allows a zero where the submitted roleplay genuinely does not meet that category.

Does staff judge character morality or politics?+

No. Staff does not grade political viewpoint, romance, morality, alignment, or whether a character succeeds. Evaluation concerns roleplay quality and contribution.

Are commendations guaranteed?+

No. Bonuses recognize exceptional community contribution and remain discretionary.

Is XP spent when I select an ability?+

No. XP is cumulative and never spent. Reaching a milestone opens a choice.

How do ability ranks work?+

A new ability begins at Rank 1. Unless its description says otherwise, it may reach Rank 3, with each additional rank adding +1 to applicable rolls.

Can a character learn every lineage ability?+

No. Capacity is limited to six Low, five Medium, and four High abilities so characters remain specialized.

What happens after 25,000 XP?+

Additional XP becomes Legacy XP for titles, cosmetic effects, journals, lore, housing or sanctuary improvements, and similar rewards that do not add mechanical strength.
