Strength guided by wisdom
Strength without wisdom is nothing more than another predator.
Overview
The Ridgeborn are powerful shapeshifters created through ancient rites and bound to the wild places of the world. Their culture teaches that true strength is found not in transformation, but in discipline, responsibility, and service to the Tribe.
Ridgeborn move among human, wolf, and Crinos forms. They possess extraordinary physical power, heightened senses, endurance, and rapid healing while remaining vulnerable to silver, fire, wolfsbane, severe trauma, and separation from nature.

Roleplay considerations
Ridgeborn reference
Physiology
Transformation is innate after the Awakening. Each form serves a different purpose and carries different risks.
Outwardly Hearthborn, retaining heightened senses and exceptional conditioning while blending into daily life.
Swift, balanced, enduring, and capable of instinctive communication with ordinary wolves.
A towering human-wolf form of immense strength. Reason remains, but emotion and stress make discipline harder.
Lunar influence
Between the Silent Moon and the Hunter's Moon, the Ridgeborn connection to the Beast rises and falls. Lunar modifiers apply only when the current phase directly affects the action.
Shifting and supernatural recovery receive a Strong Hindrance of −2 when a roll is required. Discipline, focus, and emotional control receive a Strong Advantage of +2 when directly relevant.
No lunar Advantage or Hindrance applies. Instinct and reason remain in their ordinary balance.
Relevant shifting, supernatural recovery, heightened senses, and explicitly lunar Abilities receive a Strong Advantage of +2. Checks to restrain Rage or overpowering instinct receive a Strong Hindrance of −2.
Pack and Tribe
Packs govern local life and territory. The Tribe preserves shared traditions, settles disputes, and speaks for all Ridgeborn.
Guardian of tradition, representative upon the Concord, and final voice in tribal matters.
Coordinates defense, hunts, ceremonies, and leads when the Alpha cannot.
Guards history, sacred rites, Totems, the Awakening, and the Tribe's oldest knowledge.
A trusted Ridgeborn accountable to Pack and Tribe.
Learns transformation, restraint, traditions, and responsibility under guidance.
Totems
Totems guide identity and tradition. They are not gods, grant no supernatural abilities, and no Totem outranks another.

Advancement
Strength never removes consequence. Tracking does not reveal what is truly hidden, and leadership never compels obedience.
Ranked Abilities have a maximum Rank of 3. When multiple Abilities could apply to the same action, use only the single most relevant Ability. Ability Ranks do not stack. Shifting is an inherent Capability and does not require Ability points.
Low level
Natural shifting, senses, endurance, and instincts shared by a developing Ridgeborn.Every Ridgeborn can transform between Human, Wolf, and Crinos forms after the Awakening. Shifting is an inherent lineage Capability, not a ranked Ability, and normally requires no roll. When injury, restraint, stress, or another meaningful obstacle makes transformation uncertain, roll Constitution with any applicable lunar Advantage or Hindrance. The moon changes the difficulty of shifting but never removes permission to transform.
Detect scents, distant movement, and hidden creatures through extraordinary hearing, smell, and vision. Keen Senses may apply when sensory awareness directly determines the outcome, but does not stack with Tracker or other hunting Abilities.
Demonstrate exceptional balance, agility, coordination, and athletic control when a physical challenge directly calls for these qualities. Natural Athlete does not grant a permanent bonus to every movement or combat roll.
Recover from minor injuries more quickly than ordinary Hearthborn. Silver and fire greatly interfere with this healing. Rapid Recovery does not create hit points, instantly repair severe injuries, or combine its Rank with Moonlit Recovery.
Recognize instinctive warnings of danger, ambushes, unfamiliar threats, or significant changes nearby. These impressions provide awareness rather than perfect knowledge or automatic answers.
Follow physical evidence, scent trails, broken vegetation, and other signs left by a target. Tracker does not reveal concealed quarry automatically and does not stack with other tracking Abilities.
Recover from ordinary fatigue more quickly and sustain prolonged travel, tracking, or hunting. This Ability does not eliminate exhaustion from extended combat, prevent injury, or remove the eventual need for rest.
Cross difficult natural terrain with confidence, including rocky slopes, fallen trees, dense forests, and unstable ground. Surefooted does not ignore magical hazards or eliminate every environmental Hindrance.
Recognize when familiar territory has recently been entered or disturbed through signs such as unfamiliar scents, broken vegetation, and displaced earth. This Ability does not identify the intruder or reveal their exact location.
Medium level
Abilities shaped by pack coordination, lunar strength, protection, and disciplined pursuit.Leap extraordinary distances when available space, footing, and terrain make the action plausible. This Ability does not permit flight or ignore physical obstacles.
Project confidence and authority to rally willing allies during moments of danger or uncertainty. Alpha's Command is not mind control, does not compel obedience, and does not automatically add its Rank to every ally's roll.
Coordinate naturally with cooperative Ridgeborn during danger through shared awareness, positioning, and instinctive teamwork. Pack Instinct requires genuine cooperation and does not create a permanent group bonus.
Temporarily heighten physical strength and speed during an immediate challenge. Lunar Fury may benefit from the Full Moon Advantage when the lunar influence directly affects the action, but the same lunar condition cannot provide more than one bonus.
Resist relevant blunt-force trauma through exceptional physical resilience. Silver bypasses this protection, making Iron Hide inapplicable against silver-based harm. This Ability does not create Armor Class, hit points, damage reduction, or a permanent defensive modifier.
Communicate simple emotion, intent, warning, and instinctive understanding with ordinary animals. Beast Speech does not permit detailed spoken conversation, compel obedience, or grant animals knowledge they could not naturally possess.
Use sufficient open space to launch a powerful charge capable of breaking a formation, knocking an opponent backward, or creating distance. Feral Charge cannot be used when obstacles or limited space make a charge impossible.
Accelerate natural healing for a limited period beneath the open night sky. The Full Moon provides its applicable Advantage, while the New Moon imposes its applicable Hindrance. Moonlit Recovery does not stack with Rapid Recovery, instantly heal severe wounds, or eliminate the effects of silver and fire.
Maintain focus on an established trail despite distraction, poor weather, discomfort, or discouragement. Unyielding Hunter does not reveal a target's location and does not combine its Rank with other tracking Abilities.
React quickly to place yourself between danger and a nearby ally, intercept a threat, or help someone escape immediate harm. The Ridgeborn must have a plausible opportunity to intervene, and repeated use requires rest. This Ability does not guarantee success or override another player's consent.
High level
Exceptional expressions of the hunt, guardianship, territory, and leadership.Briefly embody exceptional hunting awareness, controlled movement, and predatory coordination during a demanding pursuit or confrontation. Apex Predator does not reveal hidden prey, guarantee success, or stack with other tracking or sensory Abilities.
Rally nearby Ridgeborn through a powerful howl that inspires courage, unity, and collective resolve. Call of the Pack does not compel participation or automatically add its Rank to every ally's roll.
Push through fear, pain, or exhaustion long enough to protect others or endure an immediate crisis. Primal Resolve does not heal injuries, erase consequences, or prevent exhaustion once the danger passes.
Sense unnatural disturbances, corruption, desecration, supernatural imbalance, or unusual deaths within familiar territory. These impressions indicate that something is wrong but do not automatically identify a cause, culprit, or exact location.
Send a recognizable warning or summons across a considerable distance. Elder Howl communicates danger or requests assistance; it does not compel an answer, instantly summon allies, or reveal their locations.
Cause ordinary animals to recognize the Ridgeborn as an apex predator and respond with caution, avoidance, or heightened awareness. This Ability does not command animals or guarantee their submission.
Continue pursuing identified quarry through exhaustion, difficult conditions, or obstacles that might otherwise end a chase. Relentless Pursuit does not reveal concealed targets and does not stack with other pursuit or tracking Abilities.
Provide nearby allies with confidence and reassurance through steady presence, visible courage, and trusted leadership. Heart of the Pack does not create magical enhancement, automatic success, or a permanent group bonus.
Apply experience with forests, mountains, changing weather, animal behavior, edible plants, safe campsites, and established wilderness routes. This Ability reflects learned knowledge rather than supernatural certainty.
Ironwood Lodge
Hidden in the forests surrounding Opaline, the Lodge preserves the Great Hearth, carved Totems, training, ceremony, and generations of service. Entry by other lineages requires express tribal invitation.
